Munnar is a beautiful hill station, and was the summer resort of the British during their rule.  Munnar  is a popular place for Indian honeymooners.

The town is divided into two.  Old Munnar and Munnar.   Munnar varies in height from 1,500 m (4,921 ft) to 2,695 m (8,842 ft) above mean sea level. Munnar  meaning 3 rivers. Three rivers  are  Madupetti, Nallathanni and Periavaru , which flow through this town.

Munnar is famous for its tea plantations,   started by the British.  Neelakurinji, a blue flower which blooms only every 12 years, is found in this region is the main attraction. Munnar also has the highest peak in South India,  known as Anamudi, at 2,695 m. Eravikulam national park is one of the main tourist attraction, where you can see the endangered species of Nilgiri Tahr, the mountain goat called "varayadu". Also find Gaur, Langur, Lion-tailed macaque, and elephants.

Weather
The best time to visit Munnar  between October and March . Temperature ranges from 15 to 25 degrees during summer, and 5 to 10 degrees in winter. The atmosphere remains cool and pleasant throughout the year.

How to reach 

By air
Cochin International airport (IATA: COK), also known as Nedumbassery Airport. It is approximately 125 km away from the Munnar by road.  The other airport is Madurai Airport is  approximately  175 km from Munnar.  

By train
The nearest railway station is Aluva, 110 km and  Ernakulam is 130 km and Madurai is 135 kms.  From all these railway stations, you can get direct regular buses to Munnar
